A County Antrim property developer is planning to build a 60-bedroom hotel on the outskirts of Ballymena.

Beechview Developments, owned by Bryan Orr, has submitted the plan to build a budget hotel on a nine-acre site on Ballee Road East.

The planning application states that the intention is to attract an major operator such as Premier Inn or Travelodge.

The plan also includes a petrol station and a park and ride facility.

The developer said the proposal represents an investment of £8m, which has the potential to create about 80 permanent jobs.

The development site, close to the Larne Road roundabout, is on the same stretch of road where a local church is planning to develop a village complex.
