Belfast restaurant fined £1,000 for food safety offences

The owners of a south Belfast restaurant have been fined £1,000 for food safety offences.

Sonali Belfast Ltd, who own the Sonali restaurant on the Lisburn Road, were ordered to pay court costs of £66 in relation to six separate offences.

An inspection on 6 October 2011, found decaying food particles on the floor, grease on the walls and mould in the fridge.

The inspector noted problems over staff not washing their hands.

Waste was overflowing from bins outside the restaurant.

Belfast City Council confirmed to the court that hygiene at the premises has now improved.
