Machete gang injure man at Upper Newtownards Road home

A man has been injured after confronting three burglars - one of them armed with a machete - at his home in east Belfast.

It happened on the Upper Newtownards Road at about 12:30 GMT on Friday.

The burglars demanded money from the resident - who is believed to be in his early 60s - but left empty-handed.

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene for bruising and shock. Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
