Three men held in Cahir over dissident republican activity

Three men have been arrested in Tipperary by police investigating dissident republican activity.

The men were arrested on the N24 at Cahir. A number of explosive devices, believed to be rockets, and two cars were seized.

Technical and ballistic examinations are being carried out.

The men are being held at Clonmel and Cahir garda stations.

Inside the cars police found rocket launchers and explosives which detectives believe were ultimately destined for Northern Ireland.

The three men, all in their 30s, are from Limerick and are suspected Real IRA members.

It is understood the arrests follow a surveillance operation.
