Darren Todd pleads guilty to attempted murder of ex-lover
A man who stabbed his former lover more than 20 times in front of staff at a Belfast medical centre has pleaded guilty to attempted murder.
Darren Todd, 24, had been due to go on trial at Belfast Crown Court but instead a defence lawyer asked for the charge to be put to his client again.
Todd, from Pound Street in Newtownards, admitted trying to kill 40-year-old Mary McReynolds on 11 August 2011.
The attack took place at the Grove Wellbeing Centre on the York Road.
Ms McReynolds was stabbed more than 20 times on her arms, shoulders and back.
Health care staff and members of the public were in the reception area when the attack took place.
The judge at Belfast Crown Court adjourned passing sentence until both pre-sentence probation and victim impact reports have been compiled.
He remanded Todd back into custody.
