Boy rescued after fall in Newtownards quarry

A 16-year-old boy has been rescued from a quarry in Newtownards, County Down.

Fire crews were called to assist ambulance personnel in the early hours of Saturday morning after receiving reports that the teenager had fallen in the quarry near Quarry Heights.

The boy, who was unconscious, was carried across what the Fire Service said was difficult terrain to a waiting ambulance and then taken to the Ulster Hospital.

His condition is unknown at present.
