Carrickfergus police station alert is a hoax

A security alert at Carrickfergus police station has ended after a suspicious object turned out to be a hoax.

A member of the public carried the suspicious object into the building on Tuesday evening.

The alarm was raised and army bomb experts were called to the scene.

The station and nearby houses were evacuated. The Larne Road was closed to traffic but has now reopened.
