DUP's Nelson McCausland: Right of peaceful protest 'fundamental'

15 July 2013 Last updated at 15:48 BST

DUP MLA Nelson McCausland has said the right of protest is 'fundamental in any democratic society'.

Mr McCausland was speaking after a DUP delegation, including MLAs from north and east Belfast, met senior police officers to discuss weekend disturbances in the city.

Calling the trouble wrong, he said that law-abiding people must never be stopped from having the right of freedom of assembly and freedom to dissent.
