Woman is assaulted in Belfast alleyway

A 21-year-old woman has been assaulted by a man in an alleyway in south Belfast.

The woman was waiting for a taxi in Damascus Street at about 03:30 BST on Sunday when a man approached her and told her he would escort her to a taxi depot nearby.

On the way, he pushed her into an alleyway in the Fitzwilliam Square area and assaulted her.

When the woman screamed, a resident shouted and the man ran off.

The woman's attacker is described as being about 5ft 8ins tall and slim, with a "local accent".

He was wearing a hooded top, dark tracksuit bottoms and trainers and was aged in his late teens or early 20s.
