Suspected firearm found after south Belfast alert

A security alert in south Belfast has ended after a suspected firearm was found.

The Donegall Road was closed between Roden Street and the entrance to Belfast City Hospital after a suspicious object was discovered.

A number of homes were evacuated for several hours as Army bomb disposal experts and police searched the area.

The suspected firearm was taken away for forensic examination and the road has been reopened.
