A major department store chain in Northern Ireland is to invest £1.5m as part of its expansion plans.

Heatons has 52 stores throughout Ireland and employs 400 people in Northern Ireland.

It operates 10 of its own shops and 15 Sports Direct stores in Northern Ireland but has plans to expand in the next two years.

It is spending £1.5m on 33 new transport trailers, designed and built by SDC Trailers of Toomebridge.

John O'Neill, managing director of Heatons, said: "Over the last 12 months, we've made significant investments in improving our stores, enhancing our product offering and ensuring that we deliver what our customers need and want.

"We have positioned ourselves for major growth over the coming years in both the north and south of Ireland. The enhanced fleet allow us to better serve our increasing footprint across Ireland."
