Man dies in house fire in Rathfriland, County Down

A man has died after a fire in the bedroom of a house in Rathfriland, County Down.

The fire at Islandmoyle Road, off the Cabra Road, was reported at 11:50 GMT on Friday.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters entered the property and sadly found a male fatality in a bedroom."

The man's name has not yet been released.

Two fire appliances attended the scene.

The spokesperson added: "A small fire in the bedroom had burnt itself out. No action was taken by firefighters.

"Neighbours arriving at the property raised the alarm. Early indications suggested the fire was accidental."
