Woman slashed with scissors in Newtownabbey robbery

A woman has been slashed with a pair of scissors during a robbery in Newtownabbey, County Antrim.

The sales assistant sustained slash wounds to her arms and stomach when a man entered an optician's shop in Abbott's Cross and demanded money.

The woman, who is 44, was taken to hospital by ambulance but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The robbery took place at about 09:00 GMT on Monday and police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

The robber is described as being in his late 20s, of slim build and approximately 5ft 10in tall.

He has dirty fair hair and was wearing a black puffa-style jacket and blue jeans.
