West Belfast: masked man with hatchet robs off-licence

An off-licence and a bookmakers shop have been targeted in separate armed robberies in west Belfast.

A masked man with a hatchet went into an off-licence on the Whiterock Road at about 18:25 GMT on Saturday.

He threatened staff and left with a sum of money. A second man waited at the door and they both made off on foot.

The man with the hatchet was wearing a blue hooded top and pale blue jeans. The second man was wearing dark clothing.

In a separate robbery on the same night, two men, one with a gun, went into a bookmakers shop on the Falls Road at about 21:00 GMT.

They threatened staff and left with one worker's purse.

One of the robbers was wearing a grey hooded top, light grey tracksuit bottoms, black trainers and black gloves.

The second was wearing a grey top with a blue hooded top underneath and black gloves.

Both men made off on foot in the direction of St James Road.

Police have appealed for information.
