100,000 euros stolen in Castleblaney, Monaghan, bank raid

It is understood about 100,000 euros has been stolen from a bank in Castleblaney in County Monaghan.

Two men, believed to be armed with handguns, used a van to gain access to the bank on the Dublin Road in the town at about 17:00 GMT on Friday.

One of the men entered the bank and took the cash before leaving in the direction of Carrickmacross. Nobody was injured.

The PSNI said they were contacted by Irish police shortly after the raid.

In a statement they added: "PSNI and An Garda Siochana (Irish police) work together on an ongoing basis to assist in investigations wherever necessary."
