Cullyhanna security alert declared 'elaborate hoax'

A security alert in Cullyhanna, County Armagh, has ended after a suspicious object was examined and declared an elaborate hoax.

It has been taken away for forensic examination.

The object was found on the Lisleitrim Road. It was closed to traffic, along with Sheetrim Road and Lake Road. All the roads are now reopened.

The residents of three nearby properties who had to leave have been allowed to return home.

The Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy said the alert had caused a "major inconvenience" for local people and in particular for the farmers who would have had difficulty tending to their livestock in the area.
