Ian Paisley interview 'puts son in difficult position' says Robinson
DUP leader Peter Robinson has said he recognises Ian Paisley Jr is "in a difficult position" following a documentary that focused on his father's departure as party head.
Mr Paisley, now Lord Bannside, said in 2008 that he was not pressured to quit, but he now claims he was told to go.
He blamed Mr Robinson and his deputy Nigel Dodds, who deny his claims.
Mr Robinson said he did not intend to make the situation more difficult for the North Antrim MP.
"I give him advice as a father rather than as a party leader or as first minister, and I don't think he should say or do anything that makes his relationship with his family more difficult," he said.
"That's a particularly important element for him to keep, particularly at this stage of his parents' lives."
Mr Robinson said he would not comment on claims made by Lord Bannside and his wife Eileen in the second episode of the BBC programme Paisley: Genesis to Revelation.
"The party has made a statement - I've indicated that I don't intend to take part in these recriminations," he said.
Watch episode two of Paisley: Genesis to Revelation on the BBC's iPlayer (available until 27 January 2014).
