More than 30 local residents have held a demonstration against plans by Queen's University to build new student accommodation blocks in south Belfast.

Queen's has said it needs to knock-down a mansion on Lennoxvale to house flats for international students studying at the university.

They also say they have modified their proposal which is before planners - due to the local concerns.

Residents are opposed to plans to house 150 students in modern buildings.

Local resident Ainda Andress said if the development went ahead, the character of the street would be ruined forever.

"There will be no chance of getting it back to what it was and Lennoxvale is totally unique, a quiet backwater in a busy area," she said.

"It will never be the same again if Queen's go ahead or anyone else with a development in this park."
