Two killed in road accident in Cookstown, County Tyrone
Two men in their 20s have been killed in a road accident in Cookstown, County Tyrone.
Grant Archer, 23, from Newmills, and Robert Wilkinson, 28, from Cookstown, died in the crash on the Old Coagh Road at about 04:00 BST on Sunday.
The car crashed through two gardens before ending up on its side. No other vehicle was involved.
Insp Rod Flood said police were confronted with a "scene of carnage" when they arrived at the scene.
The road was closed for a time but has since reopened. Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.
SDLP councillor for the area, Tony Quinn, said it was an "awful tragedy" for the community to come to terms with.
"It is so, so sad. Two young men have lost their lives here today and we need to get that message across - we cannot be losing people," he said.
"I have been out in the community this morning and people are saddened and shocked with this double fatality.
"It's something we need to really try and get people to understand - to have more and more care on our roads".
