Two men have been charged with affray and possession of an offensive weapon over an incident in Larne on Saturday night.

The pair, aged 24 and 30, are expected to appear at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Friday morning.

Police believe the incident was linked to disturbances which took place in Larne on Sunday evening.

A crowd of up to 100 people, many of them masked, gathered in the town and attacked police, residents and homes.

Houses were attacked in Ferris Avenue and Knockdhu Park. One man was seriously injured and a police officer suffered an eye wound.

A senior police officer blamed a faction of the loyalist Ulster Defence Association (UDA) for the overnight "rampage".
