A man who found a syringe and drug paraphernalia in the toilet of a fast food restaurant in Belfast has said he is shocked that someone left the items in a public place.

Tommy Kelly found the needle at the Burger King outlet in Donegall Place on Sunday and reported it to police.

Burger King confirmed there was an incident in one of its restaurants.

The company said it was co-operating with local authorities.

Mr Kelly said: "The needle, bits of cloth to clean it, everything was there. Whoever it was, has took it and just put it back and probably tried to hide the needle out of the way and they hadn't succeeded.

"A child could have come in, went to the toilet, took that needle and put it in its mouth, who knows."
