Dog rescues woman from robber in Monkstown Wood, Newtownabbey

A woman's dog has scared off a man who attacked her in Newtownabbey, County Antrim.

The 32-year-old was walking the dog in Monkstown Wood at about noon on Wednesday when the man grabbed her by the hair and pushed her to the ground.

He demanded her phone and money but fled when the dog lunged at him. It is believed he was bitten by the dog.

The man was about 5ft 10ins, slim, and wore a dark blue hooded top, dark tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
