Man critical after north Belfast house fire

An 80-year-old man is in a critical condition after being rescued from a fire at a house in north Belfast.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus carried out a search of the property on Carlisle Road, in the New Lodge area, about 06:30 BST on Friday and found the man unconscious in a first floor bedroom.

The man was taken to the Mater Hospital after fire crews deployed first aid.

Is is believed the fire was started accidentally.

Two appliances from Whitla Fire Station and one appliance from Westland Fire Station attended the incident.
