A 33-year-old man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder over a stabbing in north Belfast on Thursday.

John Robert William Long, of Shore Crescent, is charged with the attempted murder of Gary Vokes on 5 June.

It is understood the incident happened at a block of flats in Shore Crescent where Mr Vokes and Mr Long's partner live separately.

Mr Vokes, 28, was critically injured in the incident. He is now in a stable condition in hospital.

Although Mr Long was granted bail at Belfast Magistrates Court, he will not be released until police approve any proposed address.

Once released, he must stay out of north Belfast, observe a curfew from 23:00 BST until 06:00 BST, report to police three times per week and not have any contact with any witnesses except for his partner.
