The budget airline Wizz Air is to begin a service from Belfast International Airport to Lithuania in April 2015.

It will run two flights a week to the country's capital, Vilnius.

Wizz Air describes itself as the largest low-cost airline in central and eastern Europe.

It previously operated flights to Warsaw and Katowice in Poland from Belfast but ended those in 2008.

Uel Hoey, business development director at Belfast International, said he was pleased to bring Wizz back into the Northern Ireland marketplace.

"Vilnius opens up a completely new market for Northern Ireland and comes on the back of recent route announcements to Reykjavik, Prague and Zante," he said.

Lithuanians are one of the largest minority communities in Northern Ireland with the last census recording more than 6,000 people of Lithuanian birth.
