Former Newtownbreda primary school damaged in arson attack

A fire has damaged a former primary school in Newtownbreda in south Belfast.

It started shortly after 22:00 BST on Sunday at the building on School Road.

The blaze spread to part of the roof before being put out.

The Fire Service said it believed the fire was started deliberately.

DUP South Belfast MLA Jimmy Spratt has condemned the incident.

"It's a shame that damage has been caused to the former primary school in Newtownbreda and disgraceful that a fire appears to have been started deliberately," he said.

"I would urge anyone who has any information or who has witnessed any suspicious activity in the area last night to report it to the PSNI."
