The budget airline Wizz Air is to begin flights from Belfast International Airport to Poland next year.

The route to Katowice will operate twice weekly, beginning on 31 March.

Wizz Air describes itself as the largest low-cost airline in central and eastern Europe.

Earlier this month, it announced a new route from Belfast to the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, would begin next April.

The airline previously operated flights from Belfast to Katowice and the Polish capital Warsaw, but those ended in 2008.

It is the ninth new route to be announced from Belfast International Airport this year.
