A 22-year-old man has been remanded into custody accused of snatching a handbag from a pensioner who suffered a fractured shoulder.

Thomas Coleman, of no fixed address, faces a charge of robbery.

He is also accused of common assault on a man at the scene on Saturday afternoon.

The 84-year-old victim had her bag stolen on Upper Queen Street in Belfast before witnesses chased and caught the suspected thief.

Appearing before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Monday, Mr Coleman spoke only to confirm he understood the charges against him.

He made no bail application and was remanded in custody to appear again in four weeks time.
