Woodvale attack: Boy beaten up on bus in 'hate crime'

A teenager has been attacked on a bus in north Belfast in what police have described as a sectarian hate crime.

The 16-year-old was travelling to work when he was approached by four males who punched him repeatedly.

The victim suffered facial injuries in the attack at Woodvale on Thursday.

Ch Insp Bobby Singleton said: "This was a disgusting attack on a young man who was doing nothing more than trying to get to his work."

He added: "Police are treating this as a sectarian hate crime and will be carrying out a thorough investigation.

"I appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident which took place on the number 11A Metro bus which left Ballysillan Park travelling towards the Shankill Road at 8.50 this morning, or to anyone who can provide assistance, to please call the non-emergency number, 101."
