Northern Ireland civil service promotion competitions halted
The Northern Ireland civil service has told staff it is suspending some promotion competitions with immediate effect because of budget pressures.
It will have an impact on competitions at executive officer two level, which is a junior management grade, and the middle-ranking grade seven position.
The suspensions are expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future.
A promotion process at executive officer one level will continue because it is "already significantly advanced".
However, staff have been told "it is not possible to say" how many appointments will be made from that competition.
An email sent to all staff states that departments are facing "significant budgetary pressures" in the foreseeable future.
It adds that had made it "necessary to examine the feasibility of our current staff resourcing plan".
