Hoax puts residents out overnight in Poleglass

A number of homes were evacuated overnight after a suspicious object was found on the outskirts of west Belfast.

An Army bomb team and police were sent to Cloona Manor in Poleglass early on Saturday.

After tests were carried out, it was found to be a hoax. All roads in the area reopened shortly before 05:30 BST.

SDLP councillor Brian Heading said those behind the hoax had shown "complete disregard for the safety of local residents".

"This incident caused unnecessary hardship and distress for residents and also tied up much-needed police resources for a number of hours," he added.
