A security alert that led to the evacuation of a number of homes in Maghera, County Londonderry, has ended.

It began when a suspicious object was discovered in Sunnyside Drive on Friday morning.

Bomb disposal officers were called to the scene to examine the object and declared it to be a hoax.

PSNI Insp Sam Shearer said: "The street has re-opened and residents have been allowed back to their homes." He appealed for witnesses.
