Dungiven arrests: Fifth man released pending report

A 53-year-old man arrested on Thursday in connection with paramilitary activity around the Dungiven area of County Londonderry has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution, police have said.

Four other men had already been released unconditionally.

A Sinn Féin councillor was among the four.

Tony McCaul, 62, was elected to the shadow Causeway Coast and Glens Council earlier this year.

He was released along with two men aged 31 and a man in his 50s.

The five men were detained at houses in Dungiven and County Antrim on Thursday morning.

Police said they were investigating paramilitary activity, including shootings and threats, predominantly over the past four years.
