Northern Ireland manufacturing sales and exports rise

Manufacturing firms in Northern Ireland had sales estimated at £18.1bn last year, a 3.2% annual increase.

Sales to Great Britain reached their highest ever level, up by 2.2% to £8.2bn.

The recovery in sales to the Republic of Ireland also continued, up almost 10% to £1.6bn.

Sales to the Republic had declined sharply during its long economic downturn.

Exports to the rest of the European Union (excluding the Republic of Ireland) also saw a big rise last year, up 16% to £1.5bn.

Sales to other world markets rose by 4.8% to £3.1bn

The only market to see a fall was within Northern Ireland, where sales decreased by 1% to £3.7bn
