East Belfast stabbing: Knife held to dog walker's throat

A man has been stabbed in the back and a knife was held to his throat as he took his dog for a walk in Belfast.

The man, who is in his 40s, was attacked in Imperial Street in the east of the city at about 02:00 GMT.

He was approached by a man wearing a black hooded top and was stabbed during a scuffle. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said a knife believed to have been used in the attack has been seized for forensic examination.

The attacker fled on foot after the stabbing.

Det Ch Insp Gary Reid appealed to anyone with any information about the attack to contact police.
