Downpatrick accident: 20-year-old dies in three-car crash

A 20-year-old man has died following a three-car collision near Downpatrick in County Down.

He was Jack Murnin, who was from the town. The crash happened on the Strangford Road at about 13:00 GMT on Monday.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man has been critically injured in an accident in Lisburn.

He was a passenger in a car that crashed on the Hillhall Road in the city at about 14:50 GMT on Monday.

Commenting on Mr Murnin's death, South Down MP Margaret Ritchie said: "While any sudden and unexpected death is tragic, this loss is all the more poignant at this time of year and considering that his father passed away under similar circumstances 14 years ago.

"Jack and his father are survived by his mother, grandmother and two siblings, whose grief must be beyond reckoning."
