More than 57,000 new cars were sold in Northern Ireland in 2014, the strongest sales figures since 2007.

In comparison to 2013, sales increased by just over 9%.

However, sales are still well below the 2007 peak of almost 69,000.

New car sales are seen as a good measure of the consumer economy in Northern Ireland, as there are no general retail sales figures.

The bestsellers list is dominated by small cars. The Ford Fiesta was the best seller with 2,249 sold.

Three SUV-style vehicles are also in the top 10, the Nissan Qashqai, Juke and the Renault Captur.

In the UK as a whole, 2.47 million new cars were registered, up 9% on 2013 and the best annual performance since 2004.
