Guns, ammunition and suspected pipe bomb parts have been found during a search of a house in west Belfast, police have said.

Bomb disposal officers were called to Forest Street on Saturday night to examine the items.

A number of residents in the area were asked to leave their homes as a precaution for a short time overnight while the operation was carried out.

A 52-year-old man was arrested and is being questioned about the weapons.

Det Sgt Kenneth Leckey said: "Firearms and ammunition were discovered by police at a house in Forest Street last night, Saturday 24 January."

The officer said Cavendish Street Hall was made available for residents who had to leave their homes while the scene was examined.
