Two robbers, one who pretended to be a police officer and another armed with a suspected gun, have attempted to steal from a shop in County Armagh.

The pair entered the shop in West Street, Portadown, at about 10:10 GMT.

The armed man jumped over the counter and wrestled with a shop worker while the robber dressed as a policeman tried to push another into a storeroom.

Both robbers left the shop empty-handed. The suspected getaway car was found abandoned in Fairgreen carpark.

The suspects were aged in their 20s.

The armed man was wearing striped black tracksuit bottoms and a black and grey jacket.

Police said there may have been a third man in the getaway car, which was a blue Toyota Avensis, registration JHZ 1307.

Det Insp Keith Gawley said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have seen the vehicle travelling between West Street and where it was abandoned in Fairgreen carpark to contact detectives at Lurgan Police station on the non-emergency number 101."
