A 32-year-old man has appeared in court in Belfast charged with the murder of a man who was stabbed to death in the city last week.

Mohsin Bhatti was stabbed a number of times in the attack last Thursday and his body was found on Botanic Avenue.

The accused, Ahmed Noor, of Agincourt Avenue, Belfast, made no bail application during the brief hearing.

He was remanded in custody to Maghaberry jail while a psychiatrist's report is prepared overnight.

That report is due to be presented to the court on Thursday, when it will be decided if Mr Noor should be moved to Knockbracken Healthcare Park where he has been previously detained.

Mr Bhatti, 29, was originally from Pakistan.

His body was discovered during the early hours of last Thursday when a member of the public rang police to report that a man was lying on the road with a number of injuries.
