Belfast assault: Two held over attempted murder released

Two men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious assault on a man in west Belfast have been released on police bail.

A 35-year-old man was attacked in Springfield Avenue at about 21:50 GMT on Thursday.

Police said he remains in a "serious condition" in hospital.

The men, both aged 26, were arrested in north Belfast on Saturday. Police said they had been released from custody, pending further enquiries.

Det Insp Pete Mullan appealed for anyone who was in Springfield Avenue on Thursday and witnessed an altercation, or anyone with any information about the attack, to contact detectives on the non-emergency number 101.
