Robert Bennett quits RUAS after cock-fight allegation

The Royal Ulster Agricultural Society (RUAS) has confirmed that a member of its committee previously linked to cock-fighting has resigned.

In June 2013, Robert Bennett was shown attending a cock-fight in footage shot by the USPCA and obtained by the BBC.

The BBC called at Mr Bennett's house but he refused to comment.

On Tuesday, the RUAS confirmed that Mr Bennett had resigned from his position with them on Friday.

It said it was not able to comment further as "this is now a matter for a police enquiry".

The Belfast Telegraph said journalists from the Sunday Life had shown members of the RUAS the footage of Mr Bennett at the the cock-fight and that he then resigned.
