Carrowdore arson: Chip van owner beaten during attack

A chip van owner has been struck with a hammer and had his vehicle set alight in an arson attack in Carrowdore, County Down.

Three men in their 20s approached the chip van in Main Street at about 19:30 GMT on Tuesday.

Police said one of the men was armed with a hammer and struck the van owner three times.

Fuel was also poured over the van and the owner. The van was set alight and sustained smoke damage.

The three men made off on foot.

Police said the chip van owner who is in his 40s did not require medical treatment at the time.
