Drumard Road, Magherafelt: Man dies in quarry incident

A man in his 60s has died in an industrial accident at a quarry in Knockcloghrim near Magherafelt, County Londonderry.

It happened at McCann's quarry on the Drumard Road area after 14:00 GMT on Friday.

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating the incident.

The man's name has not been released. It is understood he was a long-time employee of the company and was from Kilrea.

Sinn Féin councillor for the area, Sean McPeake, said the community was "saddened" by the news of the man's death.

"News coming through this evening about this tragedy has really stunned the locals," he said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased and similarly with the quarry owners."
