The man who died in an industrial accident in County Londonderry was Victor Nicholl from the Kilrea area.

The details of the accident are under investigation.

Mr Nicholl, who was 62, was working at FP McCann's quarry at Drumard Road not far from the village of Gulladuff when the accident happened on Friday.

It is understood Mr Nicholl had been driving a 60 tonne dumper truck shortly before the accident.

He was described as a hard working man who had been with the company for the past 19 years.

He was married and came from the Fallahogy district outside Kilrea.

SDLP Councillor Martin Kearney said: "He was a popular man who was very highly respected in the community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, work mates and employer."

The Health and Safety Executive will now carry out an investigation to establish exactly how Mr Nicholl died.
