West Belfast attempted car hijacking: Man is injured

A man in his 20s has been cut in the leg and hand after another man attempted to hijack his car in west Belfast.

He was driving along Waterford Street, in the direction of Colligan Street, when a man staggered in front of the car.

The man grabbed hold of the driver, produced a small knife and threatened him.

The driver then ran off with his car keys.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in east Belfast on Saturday evening, two men jumped into a silver jeep near Connswater Retail Park shortly before 17:45 BST and attempted to drive off in it.

Police said the owner of the jeep and a relative managed to get the vehicle stopped and the two suspects ran off in the direction of Bloomfield Avenue.

In another incident, a short time later, a hair salon was broken into on the Holywood Road in east Belfast.

A sum of cash was stolen from the till and the keys of a blue Audi TT car were also stolen.

Police said the suspects made off from the scene in the car that was recovered a short time later in the Kinnaird Close area of north Belfast.

They say they are investigating a link between the two incidents in east Belfast.
