Newry Orange Order parade decision criticised

A Parades Commission decision to refuse an Orange Order parade from entering Newry city centre has been condemned by the Ulster Unionist Party.

The parade has been organised by Altnaveigh Junior Orange Lodge.

Ulster Unionist councillor David Taylor said the decision was disappointing.

"It only serves to further discredit the Commission in terms of its ability to make impartial judgements on parades across Northern Ireland," he said.

"Still they wonder why the unionist community has no confidence in their ability to act as a neutral body."
