'Gun jammed' in north Belfast attack

A man has escaped injury in an attack in Belfast in which two masked men armed with a suspected gun tried to shoot him before the weapon jammed.

It happened at Mount Vernon Lane in the north of the city at about 22:20 BST on Wednesday.

The men approached the victim, who is in his 20s, as he walked along an alley and forced him to the ground.

One of the attackers took out what was believed to be a gun and tried to fire the weapon, which reportedly jammed.

Police said the attackers, who were wearing gloves and dark clothing, left the scene on foot.
