A man is in a stable condition in hospital after being shot in the legs in Cookstown on Sunday.

At around 17.40 BST two men wearing balaclavas and camouflage jackets went into a house in Drumcree.

One of the men had a handgun.

They threatened the occupants before shooting the 35 year old.

A woman in her 30s and another man, also in his 30s, were in the house at the time but were not injured.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Incredibly this incident occurred in a busy residential area during daylight hours.

"We believe those responsible may well have been spotted by local people both as they approached the property and as they made their escape from the area on foot."
