Online retailer Amazon is to extend its in-house delivery network to Northern Ireland from next week.

Amazon Logistics has been operating in other parts of the UK since 2012.

The company has a network of sorting centres which are serviced by independent delivery firms.

The Northern Ireland centre will be at the Kilroot Business Park in Carrickfergus, County Antrim.

The company said the centre would employ 18 people and work with four delivery companies providing 130 drivers.

Jamie Stephenson, UK director for Amazon Logistics, said: "Amazon Logistics adds capacity and flexibility to Amazon's delivery network, enabling us to meet the delivery needs of customers."

It is not yet clear what impact the development will have on Royal Mail in Northern Ireland.
